LATE SH RAMJI LAL KUMAR
Our beloved founder, Late Mr. Ramji Lal Kumar (RL Kumar) was born in Western Punjab area of the Undivided India (now
in Pakistan) on 12-02-1933 to Late Mr. Ishwar Das Kumar and Late Mrs Indira Devi. Post the partition, he came to India and
settled down in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh with his whole family. He was the sole bread-earner for a joint family of 17 members.
After completing his Law, he went on to pursue his Masters and thereafter completed his Doctorate in Civil Laws from Madras
University in 1963. Initially, he began his law practice in Madras (now Chennai) with his colleague and friend, Mr. A. Abdul
Ghani, Advocate. Subsequently, he shifted his practice to Delhi under his then mentor, Late Mr. Nitya Nand Dhawan,
Advocate (Editor of the Accident Claims Journal). Due to the untimely demise of Mr. NN Dhawan and other personal
commitments, he moved back to his hometown Meerut, where he set up this firm, which is now known as RLK Legals.
Later in his professional career, he was offered the position of a Professor at Meerut College, Meerut (formerly known as
Meerut University) to teach Civil Law in the evening classes so as to enable him to practice as an Advocate and also teach
without disrupting his practice and he subsequently became the Head of the Law Department.
He specialised in Accident Claim Disputes wherein he represented and advised several large transportation and automobile
companies. He also held the highly acclaimed position of Chief Editor in the Accident Claims Journal and the Consumer
Claims Journal.
